On June 2nd, Bloomington, Indiana-based artist Austin Lucas will release Reinventing Against Me!, a curated collection of eight of the iconic punk band’s hits – all in Lucas’ signature country style. The album, co-produced by Lucas and Jake Belser, will be released via Sabotage Records in Europe and GrindEthos Records / Immortal American Recording Co. in North America, unveiling a new label imprint of Lucas’ own.

Like most working musicians over the last couple of years, Lucas began to connect with fans through streamed performances. Rather than merely rehash the same show over and over again, Lucas decided to take the opportunity to pay tribute to some of the artists and bands that they loved. One of their choices has been a constant source of inspiration for Lucas for more than two decades–friends and musical peers Laura Jane Grace and her seminal punk band Against Me!. read more

Written and recorded in the earliest days of the Covid-19 pandemic and Black Lives Matter/American uprising, this album represents a new direction for Austin, yet retains his distinctive voice and hyperliterate writing style. Contained are ten songs that serve as direct commentary regarding the ongoing global situation, isolation, fear and the indomitable spirit required to stand up against systemic racism and fascism, in a world spiraling out of control.

An American songwriter and political activist currently experiencing a more or less involuntary exile, Austin finds himself isolated in a foreign land, far away from his family and friends. The first in a planned series of live recordings on Last Chance Records from our favorite bar in the world, White Water Tavern in Little Rock, AR. This record surprised even those of us who are long time fans of Austin. What came together in 5 days turned out to be an intimate, emotional and lyrically charged album. Recorded, mixed and mastered for digital by Little Rock based engineer Jon Parker and seperately mastered for analog vinyl by Prairie Cat.

Throughout most of December 2008, Austin recorded with his father (Bob Lucas) as engineer and with his family band backing him. Mastered by Grey Larsen, the 11 track album captures Austin at his very best.

Jon Gaunt and Chuck Ragan teamed up with Austin Lucas, Austin’s father Bob Lucas, and bass fiddle man Digger Barnes on this release. Together they hit it off from the very start and comprised a solid record of 12 numbers consisting of 3 Chuck Ragan originals, 3 Austin Lucas originals, 3 Ragan/Lucas originals, 1 original by Bob Lucas, and 2 old time standards called “Darling Corey” and “Distant Land To Roam”.
